Plas y Bryn in Rhos on Sea, North Wales was built by Liverpool Sugar Farmer William Bostock in 1840. It was originally used as a summer house for the family. When he married Mary Bamber, it was converted to a convalescence home for the poor from Liverpool. During the Second World War the charity ‘Saturday Fund’ also used the home for convalescence for soldiers returning from service.
In the 1950`s it was sold to Doctor Braid who registered with the Local Health Board for a Care Home to accommodate up to 53 patients until 1989. The home was then refurbished, renamed to Plas y Bryn and reopened in its present capacity.
Plas y Bryn has been operating for several years as a home solely for people with a mental disorder who have traditionally challenged mainstream services. It provides mental health nursing care to people who, due to a variety of reasons, have disorders affecting their ability to live independently. It is registered with the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) as a Care Home providing Nursing Care for up to 18 people who have functional Mental Health Problems and/or people who have Dementia or are Mentally Infirm. The conditions that challenge can affect people of all ages, therefore the Home caters for adults under and over the age of 65 although the standards document to which it complies is the National Minimum Standards for Care Homes for Younger Adults. Older People (65 plus) will be provided with a service that would meet the required standards for Care Homes for Older People.
Plas y Bryn offers nursing services to men and women including Survivors, who have problems or conditions resulting in mental ill health. This may include people with Neuro Diverse needs affecting their mental wellness. Admission is normally via referral from the Primary or Secondary Mental Health Services and/ or the Local Authority`s Social Services Department (Mental Wellness Teams).
Our Philosophy of care is based on both the Recovery Model and Rehabilitative outcome-focused interventions especially for our younger adults.
